Father of Newcastle striker target responds to new rumours – “I can deny most of it”

On Friday afternoon, The Mail’s Craig Hope revealed that Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth was the latest striker under consideration at Newcastle United as our desperate search for at least another forward continues.

This comes after our moves for Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen proved anything but simple as we bid to bring in a much-needed Callum Wilson replacement.

Sorloth would be an intriguing signing as a 29-year-old big man who has just netted 24 goals in Spain last season.

However, based on the latest comments from the player’s father, it doesn’t sound as though he’s likely to arrive on Tyneside anytime soon, even if he’s expecting Alexander Isak to depart soonL

Speaking to Goran Sorloth, the Norwegian’s father, Dagbladet have released these quotes in response

“I can deny most of it. It’s a transfer window, and that’s how it is, all summer and throughout January. I can deny that. It’s just wild rumours,”

“There are definitely clubs that have their feelers out and want to strengthen their team. That’s not surprising. Alexander Isak won’t be a Newcastle player any longer, I see. There are several teams that have injuries and things like that.”

“But Alexander is an Atlético Madrid player. Hopefully he’ll start tomorrow [today against Elche]. Then suddenly there’s a little less chance… Then I think the rumour mill will quiet down a bit.”

These quotes came on Friday, shortly after Hope reported on our interest, and Sorloth has since played for Atletico, starting and scoring in Saturday night’s 1-1 draw with Elche.

Sorloth also featured in the Sela Cup at St James’ Park two weeks ago, proving a handful for Jamaal Lascelles as he came on in the second half and set up a goal at the Leazes End.
