Pittsburgh Steelers cut ties with former 49ers safety

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released safety Quindell Johnson as part of their first 11 cuts. Johnson was signed by the team in June, but failed to make a significant roster push with his allotted opportunities.

Johnson was with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this offseason when he was signed to a reserve/future contract. However, the team released him on May 13, and he landed in Pittsburgh after that.

Johnson was an undrafted free agent in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Memphis. He signed initially with the Los Angeles Rams, but was cut during final roster cut downs. He joined the Chicago Bears after that, and was on their practice squad or active roster for much of the 2023 season. He re-joined the Rams in 2024 on their practice squad.

In his career, Johnson has played in nine games and had three tackles, one interception, and one pass deflection. However, much of his career has been spent on practice squads as a depth player.

Johnson is a 6-foot, 201-pound safety that projects to be a versatile player who can play in the box or free safety. He ran a 4.55 40-yard dash.
