"Deal done in principle" - Fabrizio Romano says 16-year-old talent is set to join Arsenal in…

Arsenal have agreed a deal "in principle" to sign 16-year-old Victor Ozhianvuna from Shamrock Rovers, according to GiveMeSport senior reporter Fabrizio Romano and Irish Independent Football correspondent Daniel McDonnell.

The Gunners have agreed a deal worth €2m (£1.73m) for the highly-rated youngster, with additional clauses potentially seeing the deal rise to €4m (£3.46m).

Romano reports that Ozhianvuna has agreed a four-and-a-half-year deal and that he will join Arsenal in January 2027, following his 18th birthday.

The fee paid for Ozhianvuna would be a record sum for an Irish Premiership player, surpassing the £1.6m that Tottenham agreed to pay for St Patrick's Athletic player Mason Melia earlier this year.

McDonnell adds that Arsenal have tracked Ozhianvuna's performances since 2023, with their head of recruitment, James Ellis, and academy manager, Per Mertesacker, playing active roles to help complete a deal.

He played in a tournament at the Gunners' academy, with his Rovers side beating an Arsenal team that included highly-rated prospect Max Dowman.

Club Brugge reportedly made an attempt to hijack the move, which would have allowed Ozhianvuna to move immediately, but the youngster opted to continue his development at Rovers before moving to north London in just under two years.

Ozhianvuna is a right-footed midfielder who plays off the left for Rovers, but his versatility means that he can also operate in attacking-midfield.

Despite his age, Ozhianvuna has already played 15 senior games for the club, making his debut in February 2025 during a 1-0 loss to Bohemians.

He scored his first goal last month in a 4-0 FAI Cup win against Wexford, but didn't come off the bench during their Europa Conference League matches against St Joseph's.

Arsenal's deal to sign Ozhianvuna would be their seventh of the transfer window, having spent over £200m so far on the likes of Victor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Martin Zubimendi.

Their most recent signing, Eberechi Eze, was announced to fans who attended their 5-0 Premier League victory against Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

Their net spend could potentially rise before the window's closure on September 1st, with the Gunners eyeing a potential move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo, who is facing an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
