Bernabeu exit on the cards? Real Madrid 'open to offers' for centre-back

Real Madrid are reportedly open to offers for David Alaba before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Austrian made the move to Los Blancos in 2021, and he has represented the capital giants on 116 occasions in all competitions, scoring five times in the process.

Alaba was a vital player during his first two seasons in the Spanish capital, but he has struggled with injuries in the last two campaigns, only making 31 appearances since the end of the 2022-23 season.

The 33-year-old's contract at Bernabeu is due to expire next summer, and according to Fichajes, the club are giving serious consideration to sell him before the end of the current market.

The report claims that Alaba is not in the long-term plans of new head coach Xabi Alonso, who has brought Dean Huijsen in from Bournemouth during this summer's transfer window.

Real Madrid 'open' to late Alaba transfer

Alaba is believed to have interest from the Saudi Pro League, but it remains to be seen whether he is open to leaving European football at this stage of his career.

The Austrian was an unused substitute for Real Madrid's first match of the new La Liga season against Osasuna, with Huijsen and Eder Militao featuring in the middle of the defence.

Antonio Rudiger is now back from a ban and is in the squad for Sunday's game with Real Oviedo, which will push Alaba further down the pecking order at Bernabeu.

Alaba's wages are also substantial, allegedly picking up in excess of £370,000 a week, making him the second-highest earner at Real Madrid behind Kylian Mbappe.

Will Alaba leave Real Madrid this month?

Alaba was out for 384 days between December 2023 and January 2025 with a serious knee injury, and he then missed the end of last season with another knee problem.

The defender is back to full fitness, but clubs will be reluctant to sign him on huge wages considering his injury troubles, so it would not be a shock to see him remain at Bernabeu.

That said, the Saudi Pro League summer transfer window is open until September 10, so he could still make a lucrative switch to the division past the September 1 deadline.
