The Seattle Seahawks are done with their preseason and finished with a very boring record of 1-1-1. The tie came first, at least. That was against former Seattle head coach Pete Carroll's new team, the Las Vegas Raiders. Literally like kissing one's brother.
The third game was always set up to be doomed. Seattle wasn't going to play very few of its starters, but the Packers were. Quarterback Jordan Love wasn't involved because he was hurt. Otherwise, he would have been in the game. Raw Seahawks rookie Jalen Milroe started for Seattle.
That last part is important, entering the season, for anyone not sold on Sam Darnold. If Darnold fails early in the season, he isn't going to [be replaced by Milroe](https://12thmanrising.com/sam-darnold-woes-jalen-milroe-throws-cause-concern-seahawks). If anything, Drew Lock is the next guy up. One of the quarterbacks, though, is a clear winner from training camp and the preseason.
Winners and losers from the Seattle Seahawks 2025 preseason
-----------------------------------------------------------
### Winner - Quarterback Sam Darnold
He still needs to prove he can be good with Seattle in the regular season, but Darnold was a preseason star even though he played one series. Moreover, he looked a lot more in control of what offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak wanted than veteran backup Drew Lock.
Plus, Darnold's offense looked years better than the one Milroe was trying to run in preseason Week 3. Literally. Milroe isn't going to be ready to start for at least two seasons. Darnold signed a three-year deal this offseason. If he does well in 2025, he is going to be QB1 through 2027, most likely.
And yes, Milroe played against starters for one series against the Green Bay Packers, but after that, it was all backups. The rookie was 0-6 on third downs and 0-3 on fourth downs in the first half of the game. He is very raw.
### Loser - Wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling
MVS has been invisible in training camp and the preseason. Some of this is due to an injury, maybe, but mostly, he has been ineffective. He has watched as rookie Tory Horton has passed him on the depth chart. There is no better proof of this than to see MVS play a lot in preseason Week 3 and Horton not play at all.
Marques-Scantling hasn't stacked splash plays in practice, and he hasn't against other teams either. It wouldn't even be surprising to see him not make the 53-man roster. His contract doesn't carry much dead money, but Seattle might rather open a roster spot than pay him.
### Winner - Running back George Holani
The Seahawks have three running backs who are locks for the roster: Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, and Holani. The latter was fantastic every chance he had in the preseason, and his absence against the Packers was only a good sign for him.
Holani's speed and power aren't just good for a backup. He showed that if the team needs important snaps from him in the regular season, he will likely be productive. He might have a long career in the NFL.
### Loser - Cornerback Shaquill Griffin
Griffin will probably make the team, but that doesn't mean that Seattle will have quality depth. He looked slow versus the Packers, and he has been dealing with a nagging injury. He seemed to be a safe free agent signing, and he might be, but he appears to be someone who shouldn't play much.
The starters will be Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen, and, if a third cornerback is on the field, that will be Josh Jobe. Griffin is probably a one-year rental, if he makes it that far.
### Winner - Center Jalen Sundell
Sundell [came into training camp](https://12thmanrising.com/seattle-seahawks-made-stance-jalen-sundell-crystal-clear) battling with three-year veteran Olu Oluwatimi for the starting center spot. Then Oluwatimi hurt his back and missed a chunk of time. Meanwhile, Sundell continued to play better and better. He didn't allow a quarterback pressure during his time in the preseason.
His starting makes sense, too. He would be playing next to rookie left guard Grey Zabel. Zabel and Sundell played together on the University of North Dakota State offensive line, and that experience should be invaluable for Seattle heading into the 2025 season.
