Jamie Carragher spots something ‘like Goodison’ at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium

Everton have begun their new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as David Moyes hopes to make more history.

It’s obviously difficult to leave a ground like Goodison Park, but after almost 133 years, Everton have made that next step.

The new 51,565-capacity stadium is a thing of beauty, to say the least, as some Everton fans think it’s the ‘best stadium ever built’.

To finally welcome the impeccable ground to the Premier League will make the club feel like it’s heading in the right direction.

But Jamie Carragher believes the designers haven’t forgotten about the past, as there is a Goodison-like feature.

Jamie Carragher thinks Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium is steep like Goodison Park

To replicate the feel of the iconic Grand Old Lady is difficult, but this is what the club are hoping to do.

Goodison was always a very hard place to visit for away sides, and over time, the hope is that the Hill Dickinson does the same, as it’s shown an incredible atmosphere already.

Well, Carragher thinks that the atmosphere can certainly be matched due to one feature that is similar to their old ground.

The former Liverpool player said to Sky Sports ahead of the Brighton game: “It feels very steep and I always think they’re great stadiums.

“I think Everton looked at that when designing the stadium as well, to be as tough for opponents as possible.

“Goodison was like that, the crowd are right on top of you. They’ve done as much as they could to make it intimidating.”

"It looks amazing – It's magnificant!" 🤩

David Moyes says the new Everton stadium ‘feels like home’, but Carragher seems to have missed another element that can help with the Goodison feel.

Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium has the same width to match Goodison Park

There are many factors included to try and recreate the feeling of what Everton is: the iconic tune of Z Cars, the Gwladys Street roar, and the overall atmosphere that made Goodison special.

Duncan Ferguson said Hill Dickinson will never match Goodison, but the Toffees have done everything in their power to make sure this isn’t the case.

Relating to this, another design that was taken into consideration might give fans more of an atmosphere boost.

The Athletic stated that the Hill Dickinson pitch is five metres longer than Goodison, at 105m by 68m, but the width is the same as their former home, as Everton had previously been given special dispensation to match the ‘compact nature’ of Goodison.

It will certainly take time to emulate The Grand Old Lady, but with Evertonians, anything is possible.
