MINNEAPOLIS, M.N. (KFYR) - The Minnesota Vikings have signed Bismarck native Carson Wentz, according to reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The quarterback signed just one day after working out for the team.
This will be Wentz’s sixth team in the last six seasons. He most recently spent one season with the Kansas City Chiefs backing up Patrick Mahomes. Prior to that, Wentz spent one season each with the Los Angeles Rams, Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts. He spent five years with the Philadelphia Eagles after they drafted him with the second overall pick in 2016.
Wentz, a graduate of Century High School, will likely backup J.J. McCarthy in his first season under center.
Sunday morning the Vikings also traded current backup quarterback Sam Howell and a sixth round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Schefter. The Vikings got a fifth round pick in 2026 and a seventh round pick in 2027 in return.
Wentz, the two-time North Dakota State Bison national champion quarterback, will open the season with the Vikings on the road against the Chicago Bears on September 8.
