West Ham have had a dreadful start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

After two matches, the Hammers sit bottom, with Chelsea demolishing West Ham 5-1 on Friday.

Criticism is no doubt high, with Graham Potter potentially facing the sack at West Ham, given his awful performance at the London Stadium.

As well as the manager, many of the players have simply not been good enough and have majorly underperformed against Sunderland and Chelsea.

Mads Hermansen has worst average rating in the Premier League this season

Mads Hermansen has no doubt had a tricky start to his West Ham career.

The goalkeeper was brought in to fix the Hammers’ problems in goal. However, his opening performances have not impressed.

Hermansen was slammed for his display against Chelsea, as the keeper let in five goals, some of which were easily preventable.

Saves 4

Save percentage 33.3%

Goals conceded 8

Goals prevented -1.22

Errors leading to goals 1

Passing accuracy 63.6%

Hermansen has not impressed early into his West Ham career

As a result, as of 24 August, WhoScored has given the Dane the worst average rating in the Premier League so far this season, with a 5.37.

This is based on his 6.1 performances against Sunderland, combined with his 4.64 in the Chelsea defeat.

It is easy to see how this rating came about, with the Dane only making two saves versus the Blues, while also making one error, which led to a goal.

Graham Potter may consider bringing Alphonse Areola back

After two poor displays, Potter may consider bringing back Alphonse Areola.

The Frenchman had been the Hammers’ number one until a string of poor displays saw this role revoked.

However, unlike Hermansen, Areola knows the system and his backline. Therefore, the keeper may be the safe choice to go with.

With Areola likely to start against Wolves in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, if the goalkeeper puts in a good performance, Potter may have a big decision to make for the Nottingham Forest tie.
