Romano: Chelsea offered 19yo winger to Man United as part of Alejandro Garnacho transfer

Manchester United have turned down a proposal from Chelsea for young forward Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho is expected to complete his transfer from Man United to Chelsea this week.

According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Stamford Bridge outfit offered Tyrique George as part of a deal for Garnacho but United turned down that possibility.

The 21-year-old fell out of favour after firing a public shot at United head coach Ruben Amorim following the Europa League final defeat last season.

Bayern Munich are one of the few clubs that approached him this summer but he has his heart set on a move to Chelsea.

United must remain adamant about their modest valuation

The Red Devils are willing to part ways with Garnacho for £50m, considering the fractured relationship between the player and the manager.

Chelsea are only willing to pay half that figure, a move that only underlines their audacious transfer behaviour.

In a market where they have forked out £60m for Joao Pedro and splashed £50m on Jamie Gittens, United should ideally ask them to pay around £70m for Garnacho.

The Argentine starlet outproduced both Pedro and Gittens last season, despite playing in a struggling United side.

He is more talented than the current duo and could be a future superstar.

Despite being only 21, he has featured 144 times for United across the Premier League, Champions League and Europa League.

The Blues’ attempt to include Tyrique George, who has managed just 26 senior appearances, looks more like a throwaway gamble than a serious offer.

The teenager is a talented winger, but he is not yet good enough to play for the Red Devils.

United must block Garnacho’s exit if Chelsea fail to meet their £50m asking price. Freezing out a player on £50,000 per week wages will not hurt United’s finances.
