Al-Ittihad are making moves to sign Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes, days before the end of the transfer window.
According to a report from The Sun, Al-Ittihad are keen on acquiring the services of Bruno Fernandes before the transfer deadline. The Saudi Pro League giants have already held positive talks with the Manchester United skipper’s camp.
Fernandes has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Red Devils at the start of 2020 from Sporting CP. He has been one of their mainstays over the years and remains a key figure in their team under Ruben Amorim.
While the Manchester-based giants had a disastrous 2024/25 campaign, the 30-year-old was still one of their standout performers with 19 goals and 19 assists in his 57 outings. Bruno Fernandes still has two years left on his deal, and he is quite happy at Old Trafford; however, his future has been a big talking point amidst interest from the Middle East.
Saudi giants Al-Hilal wanted to sign him back in June. They were ready to break the bank for him, but the United skipper turned down approaches. While Al-Hilal gave up on their pursuit, there is still interest in him from Saudi Arabia.
Al-Ittihad make moves to sign Fernandes
Al-Ittihad are also keen on signing Bruno Fernandes, and they have initiated a move to sign the 30-year-old, with plans to make him their next marquee addition. The Saudi Pro League champions have already held a meeting with Fernandes’s camp, and while he previously turned down an approach from Al-Hilal, the initial contact with Al-Ittihad is said to have been positive.
The Portuguese international is reportedly seeking a massive £33 million per year contract, but given the financial strength of Saudi clubs, his demands shouldn’t be that big of a problem. While he is an integral part of Amorim’s plans, the right financial offer could make things happen.
With Bruno Fernandes entering the final phase of his career, funds from his potential departure could help Manchester United strengthen multiple areas of the squad. However, much will depend on the player’s desire and the club’s willingness to sanction a sale with the new season already underway.
