Does Red Sox Head-Turning Team Stat Foreshadow World Series?

The Boston Red Sox are the second-best team in Major League Baseball right now, at least arguably.

The key to a successful MLB season is getting hot at the right time. Doing so later in the season is always preferable, so long as you haven’t dug too deep a hole leading up to the stretch run.

Just ask the 2024 Detroit Tigers, who were 10 games out of a playoff spot in mid-August of last season but ended up reaching the ALDS. Despite a mediocre first 100-plus games, Detroit ultimately used a 31-13 record over their last 44 games (15-5 over their last 20) to pull off a wild-card berth.

Now, back to the Red Sox in 2025. Boston has played much better baseball as this season has progressed, and the Red Sox — believe it or not — own the second-best record in baseball over their last 65 games, per ESPN’s Buster Olney.

“The Red Sox have played 130 games this season,” Olney wrote on Sunday. “Over their first 65 games they had a 30–35 (.462) record, which ranked 22nd in the majors to that point. But over their 65 games since then, Boston is 41–24 (.631), which is the second-best record in the majors over that span, behind the Brewers.”

A Red Sox-Brewers World Series sounds mighty entertaining, doesn’t it?

Boston still has plenty of work to do to get there, and, for that matter, to make the playoffs. While the Red Sox would be in if the season ended today, they are only 1.5 games ahead of the New York Yankees and two games ahead of the Seattle Mariners in the wild-card standings.

And don’t forget about the Kansas City Royals (three games back of third-place in the wild card) and Cleveland Guardians (four games back).

Amid their second half, the Red Sox would do well to adopt the mindset of their ace, Garrett Crochet, who is trying not to think about the Cy Young race that he is very much a part of.

Crochet is focused on his day-to-day work and improvement, making sure not to skip steps or get ahead of himself. If the Red Sox as a unit can do the same, anything is possible this fall.
