Everton are moving closer to a deal for Tyler Dibling. The Southampton starlet is due to undergo a medical in the coming days with the two clubs moving towards an agreement that would make the 19-year-old the Blues’ eighth signing of the summer.

Speaking after his side sealed a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, David Moyes said of the pursuit: “I’m hearing that it’s moving on and hopefully it could happen.”

Everton had three bids for the teenager rejected earlier this month, the final offer for a package that could have reached £37.5m.

After that was turned down the club made it known to the Saints they were taking their search elsewhere and explored options including Abdul Fatawu of Leicester City amid work to give Moyes a new option on the right of his attack.

Dibling, who had been left out of the club’s opening two games of the season amid Everton’s interest, was re-integrated into the squad last weekend as a result.

The hope at Everton had been the south coast club would show a willingness to compromise, however, and that position now appears to have been vindicated after they returned to the negotiating table late last week.

A package thought to be worth around £40m is now being discussed, with talks advanced enough for Dibling to have been granted permission to undergo a medical.

Should his signing be confirmed the England youth international would become Moyes’ latest addition in a summer that has already seen the arrivals of Mark Travers, Tom King, Adam Aznou, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jack Grealish, Carlos Alcaraz and Thierno Barry.

Moyes is hopeful further business will follow Dibling in the final days of the summer transfer window.
