Crystal Palace are being tipped to sign a Premier League defender on loan for the season.
Crystal Palace are now being tipped to go back to the fountain that proved successful last season as they look to add much-needed depth to the defence. The Eagles still have plenty of work to do in the transfer window, and there is only one week remaining.
Palace are competing in Europe and the Premier League this season, and plenty of business was expected, but despite Eberechi Eze joining Arsenal and Marc Guehi being likely to leave, the South London club have done very little.
Glasner has been left unhappy with that. “I can’t do anything,” the Eagles boss said this week. “I can’t sign a player’s contract. We have to act. We need this. This is Crystal Palace’s future. It’s easy to add numbers, we need to add the right players.
“The profile has been defined for months, for months. Also it’s not surprising for everyone that Ebs left, because five days earlier we couldn’t have done anything if he leaves (due to his release clause). We knew that this chance is very high that this would happen, and honestly, I say it like it is, we missed the chance to replace him early enough. That’s completely our fault, and nobody else’s fault.”
Palace need depth at defence, and that’s whether or not Guehi goes. One player they are now being linked with is Chelsea talent Josh Acheampong. The Eagles had Trevoh Chalobah on loan from the Blues for the first half of last season, and they are reportedly hoping to return to the Chelsea fountain to see if they can benefit further.
CaughtOffside say Palace are expressing an interest and are sounding out a possible loan move. The 19-year-old has impressed at Stamford Bridge already, with Enzo Maresca a huge fan. The Italian has previously said of the defender: “The one I fall in love with tonight is Josh Acheampong He can be a fantastic player for this club."
“Since we started, I’m in love with him, but tonight he showed he can be a very good player for this club He can be good in different positions. The best thing for Josh is that he's open—he wants to learn. ‘Full-back? No problem, what do I have to do?’”
Maresca added in a separate address: “[He was] very good, very good. We already showed confidence on Josh last year. He played already some games. Today he did very well, he dealt with Mateta very well. So overall, he did a good game.”
