Report: Liverpool in talks to let "fantastic" £75,000-a-week star make late departure

Liverpool are in talks with Roma about a potential loan deal for defender Kostas Tsimikas, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, with the Greek defender expected to leave Anfield before the transfer window closes.

Following the arrival of Milos Kerkez, the 29-year-old has dropped to third-choice left-back behind the Hungarian and Andrew Robertson. He is yet to feature in a competitive match for the Reds this season, having featured in pre-season friendlies.

GiveMeSport reporter Fabrizio Romano has revealed that loans are being considered, along with permanent deals. And Di Marzio has revealed that Roma will seek a temporary transfer for the Greek international.

Roma Interested in Tsimikas Loan

According to Di Marzio, Giallorossi manager Gian Piero Gasperini is keen to bring in further cover for first-choice left-back Angelino. They have contacted Liverpool about a potential loan for Tsimikas, but a deal could reportedly be difficult to strike, with clarity expected in the coming week.

There has been consistent interest in the defender throughout the summer. Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in the defender as they hope to build on last season's unlikely success, so Roma will need to act quickly to secure the player's signature.

Tsimikas arrived at Liverpool in 2020 from Olympiacos and has primarily served as a deputy to Robertson. Despite his role as a squad player, he has still managed to make 115 appearances for the Reds over five years at the club.

Earning £75,000-per-week, he will find minutes even harder to come by after the signing of Kerkez. A departure is beneficial for both the player and club, as Tsimikas will want game-time assurances while Liverpool will want to sell him to make further room for additional new signings.

Arne Slot's side have spent heavily in the transfer market this summer, with Hugo Ekitke, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni following Kerkez to Merseyside. But further signings could follow, with a transfer meeting expected over a move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo.

The Reds are also known admirers of Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi and a late move for the England international might follow as they look to bolster their centre-back options amid uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate's long-term future at the club.
