Former England defender tells Leeds United star to quit club

Leeds United are heading towards the end of the transfer window, with a host of players still under contract. Daniel Farke made it known very early in pre-season camp, who would be in his plans.

The first casualty was Patrick Bamford, after a private discussion, Farke broke the news to him. He explained that the striker’s injury record over the past few seasons made him unreliable heading into this campaign. Players like Joe Gelhardt, Darko Gyabi and Sam Greenwood were also not taken to camp in Germany. The trio were told to find new clubs.

Patrick Bamford has been dropped from the first team, and has had his shirt number taken from him. There is close to no chance he plays any part this season, based on that, former England star Danny Mills has told the 31-year old to leave the club:

“Everyone in football has different opinions but if the manager doesn’t fancy you then sometimes it’s best to make a clean break.” he said to TEAMtalk.

“Patrick has done fantastically well for Leeds United since he joined the club and managed to nick himself an England cap.

“He will always be remembered as a key figure in that side under Marcelo Bielsa who got Leeds back to the Premier League and then finish ninth in their first season back.

“But he didn’t play much last season under Daniel Farke – or the season before – and he’s had injuries as well.

“Football is ever changing and, if you stand still, you go backwards.”

Is there any interest in the striker?

Earlier this summer, Wrexham were rumoured to be interested. But based on their transfer window, they would not need a striker anymore. Bamford’s wages will also be a problem for any prospective clubs.

The most likely outcome is the striker staying in West Yorkshire till his contract expires next year.
