Tottenham made it a point to bring in a new holding midfielder early in the summer after the permanent sale of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Lilywhites managed to sign Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich on an initial loan for this season. And the North London club also retain the option of converting the loan into a permanent deal next summer.
However, there is clearly a need to bring in another midfielder that could compliment Palhinha’s game in the middle of the park. With Yves Bissouma falling down the pecking order at N17, Daniel Levy has started looking at potential options that could add more depth to the squad. Bissouma is on the verge of heading for pastures new in the coming days, so bringing in a player that could fill his void should be a priority.

The need to bring in a new midfielder should be a priority for Tottenham if they want to compete hard on all four fronts this season. As we all know, the Lilywhites do not have enough depth in the middle of the park. And with games coming thick and fast after the international break, Thomas Frank will need to have enough depth on the bench to rotate the squad whenever possible.
It was reported earlier that Spurs were keen to sign Marc Casado from Barcelona. The Spaniard made some great strides under Hansi Flick last season, and the Lilywhites took notice of that. The report also stated that the Blaugrana were willing to part ways with the 21-year-old in the coming days for €30m. And the North London club also faced competition from West Ham United and Wolves for his signature.

Now, there is a new update on the transfer saga involving the La Masia graduate. As per Fabrizio Romano (via X), Marc Casado has made it clear that he has no intentions of leaving Barcelona anytime soon after signing a long-term deal with the club. Not only that, but Romano has also reported that Hansi Flick also wants Casado to stay at the club, putting an end to all the transfer links.
Well, Daniel Levy needs to shift his focus on other alternatives now if the Lilywhites want to strengthen their midfield. With time running out in the transfer window, it looks like Spurs will focus on prioritising other positions first before giving it a last-minute go to find a new midfielder.
