Las Vegas Raiders Linked to Rather Strange QB Trade

The Las Vegas Raiders have received some bad news on the quarterback front, as backup Aidan O'Connell broke his wrist during the Raiders' preseason loss to the Arizona Cardinals and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Outside of sixth-round draft pick Cam Miller, Las Vegas doesn't have any other answers to provide relief for Geno Smith under center, so the Raiders will almost certainly have to swing a trade here. Well, Bleacher Report's Moe Moton has pitched an idea, and fans probably won't like it.

Moton is suggesting that Las Vegas pursues a trade for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, noting that Thompson-Robinson played for Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly at UCLA.

Thompson-Robinson did experience some collegiate success, but that has not exactly translated onto the professional level.

The 25-year-old was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft and actually got the opportunity to see some playing time over his first couple of seasons.

In 15 appearances and five starts with the Browns, Thompson-Robinson was nothing short of an abject disaster, totaling one passing touchdown and 10 interceptions while completing just 52.6 percent of his passes. In seven games and two starts in 2024, he tossed six picks without throwing a single touchdown.

Yes, Thompson-Robinson was a very effective dual threat for Kelly at UCLA, but sometimes, that does not necessarily translate into NFL success. That appears to be the case with Thompson-Robinson, whom Cleveland traded to the Eagles in a deal that sent Kenny Pickett back to the Browns earlier this offseason.

While pickings do seem to be pretty slim on the quarterback front right about now, the Raiders can almost certainly do better than Thompson-Robinson, who has already demonstrated he is not capable of being an NFL signal-caller. Perhaps Las Vegas can find a much more suitable answer.
