Chelsea reach agreement to sell forgotten 21-year-old to Bundesliga giants

Borussia Dortmund have agreed a €25 million deal with Chelsea for midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, with medicals planned to complete the transfer.

Fabrizio Romano has given the ‘Here We Go’ for the transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund. The English midfielder had been keen to rejoin the Bundesliga giants, who are now set to pay €25 million to Chelsea, with Aaron Anselmino also set to join the Germans on loan as part of the deal.

Chelsea have a lot of players that are seeking an exit owing to a bloated squad, with Carney Chukwuemeka one of those the club were looking to sell permanently. The Blues had long considered the midfielder out of their plans, as he spent the second half of last season at Borussia Dortmund on loan.

Chelsea had been open to letting the midfielder leave permanently this summer, as they had already rejected a bid from Borussia Dortmund, which was a loan with an obligation clause. The Blues deemed the offer as ‘insulting’ but kept the dialogue open with the German giants.

The Blues did not want to loan out Carney Chukwuemeka once again and only considered permanent bids. The 21-year-old had been adamant about joining only Borussia Dortmund, and the Bundesliga side were confident of getting a deal in place for the midfielder as well as defender Aaron Anselmino.

Borussia Dortmund have now found an agreement with Chelsea for a fee of €25 million, including add-ons and a significant sell-on clause. The latter condition was key, as per Fabrizio Romano, while Chelsea had told the Germans that they would only let Anselmino join if they could agree on a permanent deal for Chukwuemeka. Medical tests are planned for Monday for the 21-year-old, followed by formalities to conclude the move.

Chelsea still have sales to make

The Carney Chukwuemeka agreement is certainly a step in the right direction for Chelsea, but they have plenty of work ahead before the window closes. Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are awaiting moves, with plenty of interest around for the attacking duo.

Chelsea needs these sales to make space and balance the finances in the right way, as they anticipate more incomings before the window shuts. As and when the likes of Jackson and Nkunku depart, the Blues will accelerate their moves for Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons.
