Everton christened the Hill Dickinson stadium with an impressive victory over Brighton, and there were several talking points during the match.
Jack Grealish was named Man of the Match after assisting twice in Everton’s 2-0 win over Brighton, with the 29-year-old showcasing his outrageous quality in attack.
David Moyes also had to thank Jordan Pickford for saving Danny Welbeck’s penalty late in the second half to preserve his clean sheet and ensure there was no chance of a comeback.
After losing 1-0 to Leeds United on Monday, Moyes would have been pleased to see Everton respond in style, despite riding their luck, with one shocking statistic emerging.

Everton end game week in the Premier League’s top half for the first time in 1,392 days
A move into the state-of-the-art Hill Dickinson Stadium will hopefully galvanise the Toffees and give them a platform to progress as a club.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
In recent years, Everton have battled against relegation but turned a corner when Moyes was appointed as manager in January 2025 by ending the campaign in 13th position.
With some impressive signings made this summer, including Grealish, Everton have been tipped to finish in the European places by Michael Owen.
However, after recording their first three points on the board, one statistic will bring them back down to earth.

According to EFC Statto on X, this is the first time since November 1, 2021, that Everton are ending a match day in the top half of the Premier League table – a whopping 1,392 days ago.
It’s a crazy stat that highlights how poor the Toffees have been for years, with signs that the tide is turning on Merseyside.

David Moyes already eyeing European football
Everton lacked guile, creativity and speed in attack against Leeds, but their front four in the win over Brighton were electric.
Ndiaye was immense down the right flank, while Grealish tore Mats Wieffer to shreds on the left, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry offering a threat centrally.
With Tyler Dibling on the verge of joining Everton, Moyes is blessed with an abundance of talent in attack, and he is already dreaming of leading the Toffees back into Europe.
Speaking in April 2025, the Scot said via TNT Sports: “In many ways, I think in the first period I was here, I think we were successful.
“We were near the bottom of the league when we took over, but we found ourselves challenging for Europe, trying to challenge the teams at the top.
“We would like to try and get Everton back to where they’re challenging again for European football.”
