Bruno Fernandes has been a key player for Manchester United - ever since making the move to Old Trafford from Sporting CP in January 2020. During his five-and-a-half years at the club, so far, he has made 291 appearances in all competitions, scoring 98 goals and providing 86 assists.

The last few months have seen a lot of talk over the midfielder's long-term future at United, amid interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia. It appears that that talk will not die down in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Despite the player himself turning down a move to Al-Hilal earlier in the window, links with other clubs have now re-emerged. With that in mind, here's a look at the latest news around the United captain's future;

Saudi Arabia interest

Reports over the weekend claimed there is, once again, interest in the United captain from Saudi Arabia this summer. The Sun reported that Fernandes is being "targeted" by Al-Ittihad in the closing days of the window.

It's thought that there has, already, been a meeting held between the club and the player's camp over a possible transfer. The talks are said to have been positive. It comes after the Portugal international turned down a possible move to Al-Hilal earlier in the window.

Man Utd stance

As reported on Sunday by The Manchester Evening News, United expect Fernandes to stay at Old Trafford beyond the current window. United sources are baffled over the new speculation, with it highly unlikely that the player will leave the club this summer.

Fernandes has two years remaining on his current contract with the club having the option for an additional year.

Bruno Fernandes admission

Earlier in the window, amid the speculation over his future, Fernandes himself opened up on his future.

He said: "I have always been honest. I've always said I will be here until the club says to me that it's time to go.

"I'm eager to do more, to be able to bring the club the great days.

"In the day that the club thinks that I'm too much or it's time to part ways, football is like this, you never know it.

"But I've always said it and I keep my word in the same way. If the club thinks it's time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it's what it is, and football sometimes is like this."
