Can it get any worse? West Ham surely are backing themselves into a corner this late in the transfer window. Having already sold one of the ‘Crown Jewels’ – Mohammed Kudus – for an uninspiring £55 million to arch rivals Tottenham, the club its risking inflaming its fan base further by countenancing a sale of West Ham’s sole creative midfielder Lucas Paquetá.
As Matt’s article earlier, Spurs are in the running and have already got one over David Sullivan by signing Mohammed Kudus for £30 million under his release clause – so whatever price is put on Paqueta, the Hammers have zero negotiating prowess to get anywhere near it. Instead of saying ‘Not for sale – see you!” There seems a grubby willingness to flog off everything and anything of value. Are the bailiffs on the way? Where’s the fire?
And again I preface this by saying ‘if’….IF Givemesport.com’s Sunday report is correct, the club have decided on the price for which they’ll sell the Brazilian, capping off a truly dreadful summer for West Ham’s worldwide estimated four million supporters.

With eight days left in the transfer window, what possible benefit could come from the sale of Paquetá? The Hammers have failed in three months to bring in midfield reinforcements, what chance do they have in eight days. None. Zero. Nada. Zilch.
Paquetá himself is said to be quite happy to stay at West Ham, as the club have supported him through his two year FA inquiry.
So why sell? His value will only be rising in the next twelve months as he plays again without the Damoclean Sword of a lifetime ban hanging over his head. Fans have already seen glimpses of his brilliant best and maddening worst.
GMS claim that” West Ham are set to consider serious offers to sign Paqueta even though his goal was among the only positives to come from the harrowing loss to Chelsea last week, according to GMS sources, but they are in line to hold out for a fee in the region of £60million as he has not given indications that he is desperate to embark on a fresh challenge.”
Sixty million ? What good is sixty million if bringing in new players is out of the question? As matter of urgency we have reached out to our high ranking source inside West Ham to establish the veracity of the story – are West Ham indeed countenancing a sale of Lucas Paqueta for sixty million?
