Manchester United legend Gordon Hill questioned one of Ruben Amorim’s substitutions after a draw against Fulham.
After losing the first game of the 2025/26 Premier League season, Manchester United drew 1-1 with Fulham at Craven Cottage.
There were signs of promise earlier on, particularly from new signing Matheus Cunha, who struck the post in the first half. The Brazil international could have scored twice in the opening three minutes.
A missed penalty from Bruno Fernandes meant that both teams went in at half-time with the game scoreless.
United centre-back Leny Yoro opened the scoring with a deflected header, but the lead was short-lived as Emile Smith Rowe found the net to equalise for Fulham.
The Red Devils had won on each of their previous eight visits to Craven Cottage, but that run has now ended following Sunday’s 1-1 draw.
While United did most of the attacking throughout the game, Amorim’s side weren’t clinical enough and paid the price for Fernandes’ missed penalty.

Gordon Hill slams Diogo Dalot after Fulham draw
Amorim made one change to his line-up that started against Arsenal last weekend. That saw Amad Diallo start at right-back, with Diogo Dalot named on the bench.

The United head coach made his first change in the 52nd minute when he opted to bring on Dalot for Amad.
Dalot didn’t cover himself in glory when he came on the pitch, proving wasteful with his crossing and giving the ball away for Smith Rowe’s equaliser.
Former United winger Gordon Hill took to X, formerly known as Twitter, during the match to criticise Amorim’s decision to bring on Dalot.
It should be noted that Dalot wasn’t solely at fault for the goal as Matthijs de Ligt thought Altay Bayindir had it covered.
Four of United’s substitutions were defensive-minded, with Benjamin Sesko being the only attacking player brought on.
Man Utd ‘lacking confidence’
Only time will tell if United are going to bounce back from a slow start to the season.
One point from two games isn’t enough, and Amorim knows that results need to improve.
Hill took to social media again after the match to stress that United’s first team is lacking confidence as well as effort.
United are in action next against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
