[The Vikings](https://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings) announced their first wave of roster cuts Sunday with the deadline to trim to 53 players coming at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Nine players were waived: cornerback Reddy Steward, cornerback Keenan Garber, running back Tre Stewart, safety Mishael Powell, tackle Logan Brown, offensive lineman Zack Bailey, wide receiver Silas Bolden, wide receiver Robert Lewis and defensive lineman Travis Bell.

Most were undrafted rookies signed as free agents this spring. Bailey has three years of NFL experience, Bell two and Steward one.

Additionally, the Vikings terminated the contracts of quarterback Brett Rypien and outside linebacker Cam Gill.

Their roster now sits at 79 players.

A seventh-year veteran, Rypien appeared in all three preseason games this month for the Vikings, completing 15 of 29 passes for 151 yards. He threw one interception and was sacked three times.
