Jack Grealish makes incredibly honest admission during interview after first Everton start…

Jack Grealish’s loan spell at Everton has got off to a flyer after notching two assists in his side’s 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon – and the English winger has been praised for his heart-warming post-match interview.

Unfancied by Pep Guardiola and his entourage at Manchester City, Grealish took it upon himself to move onto pastures new this summer – and that came in the form of a season-long loan at Everton, who have entered their Hill Dickinson Stadium era.

The former Aston Villa academy graduate – whose £100 million move to City makes him one of the most expensive transfers in Premier League history – made his debut for Merseyside as a 71st-minute substitute against Leeds United, but he really proved his brilliance this weekend.

Alongside his duo of assists, Grealish was one of Everton’s most dangerous forwards: he won possession more often (seven) and won more tackles (three) than any other Toffees player, proving that he is willing to be an energetic presence from the front.

At times, the 29-year-old struggled for gametime under Guardiola’s stewardship and, therefore, a move away ups his chances of earning a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup England squad. And his innate talent was on show when David Moyes’ side dominated in a 2-0 win over Brighton.

Following the match, Everton’s first at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Grealish spoke to beIN Sports about loving football again. “For me, I wanted to come here, and the main thing was to enjoy football, you know, enjoying playing every day,” he started.

“And I think maybe at times in the last couple of years, I’ve fallen out of love – not fallen out of love, but just didn’t enjoy football as much as I should. My family said to me at times when I was at home and stuff. That’s down to no one else; it’s down to myself.”

But yeah, I absolutely love football, and I want to have that feeling again, when you wake up on a match day and you just can’t wait to get out there. That’s how I felt today and hopefully my performance showed that,” the Birmingham-born star concluded.

Enthused by Grealish’s return to action, fans have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to praise his honesty. “Cracking interview that. Good on you Jack, football is about expressing yourself and enjoying the talent you are lucky to have,” one said.

Even fans of other Premier League sides are happy for Grealish, who won three England top flight titles and the solitary Champions League crown under former boss Guardiola, and his start to life on the blue half of Merseyside.

“Jack Grealish has never had anything to do with the club I support but I’ve always had so much time for him. You can tell he’s holding in a lot of emotion in the middle part of this interview: I hope he gets back to his best at Everton.”

“Thing I love about Grealish is you’ll always get an honest interview. Speaks his mind. Speaks well. Reckon it’s something the Everton supporters will love about him in good times and bad,” another fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote.

“As a neutral and just a football fan, I’m so pleased to see Jack smiling again. A true entertainer and a happy Jack is good for the league and England,” another said as a fifth added: “So good to see him smiling and back to playing football again. Fingers crossed he’s back in the England squad in a couple of weeks too.”
