Unfancied by Pep Guardiola and his entourage at Manchester City, Grealish took it upon himself to move onto pastures new this summer – and that came in the form of a season-long loan at Everton, who have entered their Hill Dickinson Stadium era.
The former Aston Villa academy graduate – whose £100 million move to City makes him one of the most expensive transfers in Premier League history – made his debut for Merseyside as a 71st-minute substitute against Leeds United, but he really proved his brilliance this weekend.

Alongside his duo of assists, Grealish was one of Everton’s most dangerous forwards: he won possession more often (seven) and won more tackles (three) than any other Toffees player, proving that he is willing to be an energetic presence from the front.
At times, the 29-year-old struggled for gametime under Guardiola’s stewardship and, therefore, a move away ups his chances of earning a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup England squad. And his innate talent was on show when David Moyes’ side dominated in a 2-0 win over Brighton.

Following the match, Everton’s first at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Grealish spoke to beIN Sports about loving football again. “For me, I wanted to come here, and the main thing was to enjoy football, you know, enjoying playing every day,” he started.
“And I think maybe at times in the last couple of years, I’ve fallen out of love – not fallen out of love, but just didn’t enjoy football as much as I should. My family said to me at times when I was at home and stuff. That’s down to no one else; it’s down to myself.”
But yeah, I absolutely love football, and I want to have that feeling again, when you wake up on a match day and you just can’t wait to get out there. That’s how I felt today and hopefully my performance showed that,” the Birmingham-born star concluded.
