FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots waived guard Layden Robinson Sunday with an injury designation.

Robinson, 24, will revert to New England’s injured reserve.

The move brings the Patriots one step closer in trimming their roster to 53 players by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline. The team now has 76 players on the active roster.

Robinson, drafted in the fourth round last year out of Texas A&M, started 11 games as a rookie, six on the right side and five on the left. But he was not a part of the guard rotation following the offseason coaching change. The team has instead relied on Michael Onwenu on the right and rookie Jared Wilson and Ben Brown on the left.

Of New England’s eight draft picks last year, only three (quarterback Drake Maye, tackle Caedan Wallace, and wide receiver Javon Baker) are in contention to make the 53-man roster. Wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk is set to undergo shoulder surgery, Robinson has been waived, cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr. is on injured reserve with a torn ACL, quarterback Joe Milton was traded to Dallas this offseason, and tight end Jaheim Bell was waived on Friday.
