The report also said that talks are going on between City and PSG, and the fee will be kept below the initial €50 million. However, this deal depends on the future of Ederson, in whom Galatasaray are showing interest.
United were also in this race for the last few weeks as the club wanted to confirm Onana’s replacement. Donnarumma’s stature, his big match experience and penalty saving record make him an attractive option, but there has always been debate whether the UCL winner would want to join a struggling team like us. On the other hand, United are now targeting Senne Lammens and that deal is said to be close to completion. This means that the Italian shot-stopper’s move to City may not completely derail United’s plans.
The truth about Donnarumma and United’s path
Donnarumma is certainly a big name, and it would be wrong to doubt his talent. Obviously, United would have loved to have him in the goal, but we definitely did not have the money to pay the quoted price, given that we are yet to sell players. Moreover, the 26-year-old was also reluctant to join a struggling project like ours and wanted a stable team in the Premier League that could have given him a high salary.
Right now, it should not matter that we are losing out on the big Italian, as, despite our interest, we were obviously not going to pull off this deal. So, our complete attention should be on finalising the deal for Senne Lammens before the summer transfer window ends.
