Xavi Simons is pushing for a move to Chelsea, who are waiting to offload their current players before sealing the transfer of the Dutchman.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi Simons is pushing to get a move to Chelsea from RB Leipzig. The Premier League side have held extended talks, and the move is considered all but done; however, the Blues are waiting to offload their current players to make space for the arrival of the Dutchman.
Chelsea have been chasing Xavi Simons for many weeks now, with a deal nowhere close to being concluded. The Blues have had a good enough window so far where Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato arrived.
Most of those deals were completed before and during the Club World Cup, as their activity after that only included the arrival of Hato. Chelsea reportedly had a verbal agreement with RB Leipzig for the signing of Simons, although they are waiting to conduct a few high-profile sales before bringing the 22-year-old attacker.
For instance, players like Noni Madueke have already left, with Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson widely expected to depart before the transfer deadline. The latter is of interest to Newcastle United and Bayern Munich, as Chelsea want to create space and balance their finances with those departures before signing players like Simons and Alejandro Garnacho.
Chelsea have told Simons and Garnacho they will complete their deals before the end of the month, and there’s still plenty of time to do that. As for Simons, he did play for Leipzig over the weekend in their Bundesliga opener, which resulted in a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of champions Bayern Munich.
Xavi Simons pushing for Chelsea move
On paper, Leipzig are keen to keep hold of the playmaker if they can, although there’s enough pressure from the player and other circumstances to sell. Simons has been pushing to get a move to Chelsea, and that could increase in the coming days as the window nears its conclusion.
Chelsea will want to focus on completing a few outgoing deals first before agreeing to a move for the 22-year-old attacker from Leipzig. As things stand, Simons is waiting for Chelsea as he also had other interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City before, as the deal might materialise in the next few days before the deadline.
