Manchester United were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage, leaving their Premier League campaign still waiting for lift-off.
They will now look to register their first win of the 2025-26 season against Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
Manager Ruben Amorim was quizzed after the game on how he plans to line up his squad for the mid-week encounter.
He replied (via ManUtd.com): “The way we play, we are going to change because we need to look at the opponent to understand what we need to do to win the game.
“We want to win. We know that in these kinds of games in the cups, anything is possible. So we need to win, we want to win.”
Amorim cannot afford a slip-up vs Grimsby
The United head coach has suggested that he may tweak his side for the Carabao Cup clash.
A change appears necessary given the results that have transpired over the first two games of the season.
Despite losing to Arsenal, there were plenty of positives for United supporters.
A bright start against Fulham had further bolstered their hope for their maiden victory of the season.
When Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take the penalty, he looked visibly frustrated, and soon he blazed his shot way over the bar.
Fulham increased pressure on United’s defence, leading to an error from Diogo Dalot.
INEOS have thrown their weight behind Amorim in the transfer market, and it is now his responsibility to ensure those investments are repaid on the pitch.
Football is a results business and one would expect any United side (even the weakest) to comfortably beat Grimsby Town.
Anything short of a convincing victory could not only stall United’s momentum but also edge Amorim closer to the sack before the year is out.
