Real Madrid edged past Real Oviedo with a 3-0 win in La Liga. Real Madrid had to be patient as Oviedo packed the midfield and struggled to create anything themselves. The opening 30 minutes were a confidence booster for Oviedo goalkeeper Aaron Escandell, who showed some assured handling. It was Madrid who broke the deadlock seven minutes before the break.
Arda Guler fed the ball into Kylian Mbappe, with his back to goal. The Frenchman's first touch dragged the ball in front of him, then with his second touch he drove the ball into Escandell's bottom right-hand corner. With only two touches in Real Madrid's box in the first-half, Oviedo would need to be more adventurous in the second period.
Oviedo continued with a cautious approach, hoping to keep within a goal of Madrid. However, Kwasi Sibo warmed the gloves of Thibaut Courtois with a 25-yard strike. With only a goal in the game, Oviedo still held hope of getting something out of the game. Sibo then hit the post with seven minutes left, but with a minute Mbappe made it 2-0, after an unselfish pass from Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian looked lively after coming on in the second-half, and he got Madrid's third in injury time.
