Four things we learnt from Everton 2-0 Brighton

Everton bounced back from Monday's disappointing setback in a perfect manner as they've started life at the Hill Dickinson stadium with a 2-0 victory over Brighton& Hove Albion.

Goals from Illiman Ndiaye and James Garner set Everton off the mark in what was the Blues first win in August since 2021- ironically against the Seagulls.

Jordan Pickford denied Danny Welbeck from the penalty spot to ensure Everton's lead and first clean sheet of the season

Ndiaye who scored the goal at Goodison Park back in May against Southampton, scored the first goal at the club's new home has cemented his name in Everton's folklore as the new era has started positively.

Grealish shines on his first start

Everton's marquee signing so far this summer certainly delivered and proved why Everton were after him all summer and reminded the Evertonians what he can bring.

The 29-year-old superbly set up the opener when he ran 1v1 against Mats Wieffer and fizzed his cross across goal which Ndiaye got on the receiving end and gave the Blues the lead.

Grealish had a say in the second where he laid it off for James Garner who's venomous effort flew past Bart Verbruggen early on in the second-half.

The England international could of had a third assist but substitute Dwight McNeil dragged his shot and failed to wrap the game up for Everton.

Grealish shone on his first start and has shown the star qualities his possses something which the Toffees have lacked in recent years.

Jordan Pickford steps up

Throughout the ninety Brighton were a constant threat and will be scratching their heads on how they didn't get something out of the game.

Pickford got his teammate James Tarkowksi out of trouble when his back pass was intercepted by Matt O'Riley who looked certain to level it.

O'riley went round the Everton's shot stopper but he managed to push away his effort before claiming the ball to keep the Blues's lead intact.

Pickford stood firm when he pushed away Ayari's effort from range before denying Danny Welbeck from the penalty stop with around 15 minutes left to play.

The England international waited for Welbeck to strike and dived correctly to save what was a tame effort from the Brighton striker which avoided a nervy ending in Everton's opener at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton's new front three linked well together

David Moyes made two changes to the front three which started against Leeds with Jack Grealish and Thierno Barry coming in for Carlos Alcaraz and Beto, with Illiman Ndiaye starting on the right.

For the first goal they all had a huge say with Barry holding the ball of Lewis Dunk before the ball got played out-wide to Grealish who fizzed it across for Ndiaye to put in the empty net.

For the second it was good work once again from Everton's new striker who waited patiently to find Idrissa Gueye who chipped it across to Grealish and where the Birmingham born lays it off for James Garner to double Everton's lead.

The attacking talent all offered something different which is a huge strength for David Moyes with the attacking talent he has at his disposal and looked dangerous when in attacking positions against Brighton, something which Everton have been deprived off for numerous of years now.

Perfect start for a new era for the Blues

Following an emotional and beautiful send-off Goodison Park got in May the Hill Dickinson Stadium provided what the future could embark for the club in what was a historic and iconic occasion for the club.

For decades there's been talks of the club moving stadium but nothing ever came to fruition until the move down at the river Mersey and with the new stadium it can steer the club into a new era and kick-on in the Premier League.
