Bootle, who joined the Lions in 2025, previously spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers (2024–25), Carolina Panthers (2023–24), and Kansas City Chiefs (2021–23). Over his first four NFL seasons, he appeared in 21 games (two starts), recording 28 tackles and two pass defenses.
The move comes as Detroit continues to finalize its roster ahead of Tuesday’s NFL cutdown deadline. Bootle had been vying for a depth role in the secondary before landing on the injured list earlier this preseason.
With Bootle’s release, the Lions’ cornerback competition remains focused on players like Terrion Arnold, D.J. Reed, Amik Robertson, Avonte Maddox, and Khalil Dorsey, all of whom are fighting for roles in a deep defensive backfield.
