Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottingham Forest: Post-Match Crystal Palace Player Ratings

After a controversial summer between these two sides which saw Palace lose an appeal against UEFA’s decision to demote them from the Europa League to the Conference League because of a multi club ownership it was Sunday’s opponents Nottingham Forest that will take their place.

Some people dubbed this game in South London as an ‘El Casico.’

Forest have proven themselves to be a bit of a bogey side for Palace in recent times as the Eagles have failed to beat them since 2011 and not beaten them on home turf since 2003.

Oliver Glasner’s men backed up last weekend’s draw at Chelsea with another respectable against Nottingham Forest.

The Eagles had taken the lead in the first half. It was Ismaila Sarr who would score Crystal Palace’s first of the season after new Arsenal signing Eze had a goal ruled out in his final appearance.

Forest would then find their equaliser on the 57th minute through a Callum Hudson-Odoi goal.

Both teams had chances to win it in added time with Forest hitting the woodwork and sending a chance over the bar and Palace believed they could have had a spotkick.

Dean Henderson – 7

It was another good performance from the England international as he made a few saves to keep them at bay.

Daniel Munoz – 6.5

As always was frequently making runs up and down the right and grabbed the assist for Sarr’s strike with a ball across the face of goal.

Chris Richards – 6

Was recalled to the starting eleven after being rested during the week against Fredrikstad in the Conference League play off and it was a good performance from the American as he won over half of his duels and made a few clearances.

Maxence Lacroix – 7

A solid performance from Lacroix as he made numerous recoveries and slide tackles to thwart Forest counter attacks. No player won more than his 11 duels.

Received a yellow card for a foul on Morgan Gibbs-White in the first half.

Made a lovely gesture to Palace fans by offering a free soft drink to fans in row five, (Lacroix’s shirt number).

Marc Guehi – 7.5 (POTM)

Good on the ball qualities and showed he can move it up the pitch while he made an interception and a few clearances.

Could have won it late on after a headed effort hit the post.

Once again managed to shut out rumours of a potential departure before the end of the window.

Thomas Tuchel watched on at Selhurst Park and if Guehi is to start for him next summer it may be best, he sees out the final year of his contract for guaranteed minutes.

Tyrick Mitchell – 6

Another okay performance from Mitchell. In the early stages of the first half, he showed good strength to outmuscle Chris Wood as he almost had a breakthrough.

Getting better going forwards attempting multiple crosses into the area and long balls. However, the accuracy is not quite there yet and will hopefully improve in the coming weeks.

As referees attempt to crack down on time wasting this season the full back picked up a yellow card in the second 45 for taking too long on a throw in. Was caught slightly out of position for the goal and could not quite track back quick enough.

Adam Wharton – 7

A standard Adam Wharton performance and his game will be crucial for Glasner’s side due to his consistent pinpoint passes and ability to break the line. Grabbed the pre assist for Sarr’s goal.

Will Hughes – 7

A usual Hughes performance with hunger and grit in the middle of the park as he regained the ball and created a game high of three chances.

Ismaila Sarr – 6.5

Was found unmarked in the centre of the area to bag his first goal of the new season. May feel hard done by that he did not win a penalty in the closing stages after a challenge in the box.

Justin Devenny – 4.5

Found himself in the attacking third within the opening ten minutes with a chance of goal but besides this it was not a great performance as he was frequently dispossessed and lost his duels.

Seemed light and easy to muscle off the ball as he struggled to create any chance for his teammates.

Jean-Philippe Mateta – 5

It was a rather quiet performance from the French striker who scored Palace’s first goal of their Conference League campaign during the week.

His most noteworthy intervention in the game was a long range shot that forced a flying acrobatic save from Matz Sels.

Substitutes

Romain Esse – 6

The former Millwall winger showed signs of promise after his introduction from the bench.

He showed signs of skill and trickery and won a couple of fouls while he progressed the ball well with a couple of his passes.

Jefferson Lerma – 5

Was brought on off the bench to take Wharton’s place in the midfield.

During his time on the pitch, he did not have enough time to make a major impact on play as he registered just three touches.

Odsonne Edouard - 5.5

Could not really make a game changing impact on the game during his seven minutes on the field.

Had a chance to play a pass into the final third to Sarr and won a free kick.
