'More need to go': Garnacho and Simons deals on edge as summer enters final week

Chelsea will only move ahead with deals for Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons if they can move on Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Tyrique George, the latest report has claimed.

The Blues picked up their first win of the 2025-26 Premier League season on Friday, beating West Ham United 5-1, with five different players scoring.

Head coach Enzo Maresca will hope that his side can continue their form in front of goal, though despite their strong performance, the club are still keen on bringing in more attacking stars.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with Manchester United winger Garnacho and RB Leipzig creator Simons, but with the transfer window closing on September 1, there is a chance that neither player is signed in time.

Sky Sports report that while moves for both players will only proceed should Jackson, Nkunku and George leave, the possibility of signing one of the two if only one player leaves has not been ruled out.

Garnacho or Simons: Who should Chelsea prioritise?

Garnacho and Simons both prefer to play on the left side of attack, though Simons is capable of playing as a number 10, making him a more versatile option than the former.

The United winger is more of a direct goal threat, preferring to threaten in behind opposition defensive lines, and his pace could make him a useful addition to Maresca's squad.

Current striker Joao Pedro often drops deep to collect possession, and having players capable of exploiting the space he creates would be of benefit to the Blues.

Simons would also be competing for a spot in the team with Cole Palmer, and it is difficult to see how the Leipzig forward would impact the first team.

What else do Chelsea need in the remainder of the transfer window?

Chelsea already boast a number of offensive players within their ranks, and the addition of yet more forwards should arguably not be seen as a priority.

Centre-back Levi Colwill is yet to be replaced adequately following his ACL injury, with Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo starting against West Ham.

The duo are both strong duellists, but neither are as accomplished with the ball, so perhaps adding a centre-back before the end of the transfer window would be wise.

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has frequently been criticised, but at this late stage of the summer, it remains to be seen if a replacement can be signed.
