The New York Jets announced Sunday that they released linebacker Jamin Davis, in addition to waiving six other players. After being claimed by the team on waivers in December, Davis re-signed on a one-year deal with the team back in March. New York has since made the transition from former head coach Robert Saleh to the incumbent, Aaron Glenn.
Davis was the No. 19 overall selection of the Washington Commanders in the 2021 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he managed 76 tackles, 1 sack and 1 pass deflection. He recorded single season highs in tackles (104), sacks (3) and fumble recoveries (2) in 2022. The 2023 season brought season highs in forced fumbles (2) and interceptions (1). Shortly after head coach Dan Quinn arrived in 2024, the team made a change and released the Kentucky linebacker after five games. He played nine games last season split between Washington (5) and Minnesota (4), totaling 18 tackles (12 solo) and 1 sack while taking 106 defensive snaps.
The linebacker will have an opportunity to catch on elsewhere as teams continue making adjustments ahead of the regular season.
NFL teams have until Tuesday, August 26 at 4 p.m. ET to get down to the 53-man active roster limit. CatsPause.com recently explored the former Wildcats that are currently on an NFL roster ahead of those decisions.
