The Green Bay Packers are swapping a late-round draft pick for more offensive tackle depth ahead of the NFL’s 53-man roster cutdown deadline on Tuesday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers are trading a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for 25-year-old offensive tackle Darian Kinnard, who has already won three Super Bowl championships in his first three NFL seasons.

Kinard spent his first two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs after they selected him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft, but he played just six snaps on special teams as a rookie and fell to the practice squad in his second year. He then signed with the Eagles in 2024, winning a 53-man roster spot and playing the first 71 offensive snaps of his career — including 68 in his first career start against the New York Giants in Week 18.

While Kinnard has little regular-season experience, he did play on 101 snaps for the Eagles in the preseason, splitting his time between right guard and right tackle and allowing just six total pressures in pass protection, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Packers will now have one less spot up for grabs for offensive linemen on their 53-man roster when they start reducing their numbers over the next few days. All teams must reduce their rosters from 90 players to 53 players before 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Darian Kinnard Helps Patch Depth Holes Left by Injuries

Kinnard is not an eye-popping acquisition for the Packers, but he became a somewhat necessary one after the offensive line room’s run with injuries during training camp.

Less than 48 hours before the NFL cut deadline, the Packers have seven clear locks to make the roster between Zach Tom, Elgton Jenkins, Aaron Banks, Rasheed Walker, Jordan Morgan, Sean Rhyan and Anthony Belton and then a mess of uncertainty.

The Packers are high on seventh-round rookie John Williams, but he missed all of camp with a back injury and is likely to begin the season on the injury list. The team also had to place backup guard Travis Glover on injured reserve in early August and could do the same with backup center Jacob Monk after his hamstring injury in last week’s practice.

With Kinnard in the mix now, though, the Packers should have enough to stock up nine strong on their offensive line between him and third-year lineman Kadeem Telfort, who played his first 23 offensive snaps in 2024 and had bright moments in the preseason.

Could Packers Swing More Trades Before Deadline?

The Packers made a rare trade to acquire Kinnard from the Eagles before the deadline, but could they potentially make another to fortify their roster for a Super Bowl run?

Traditionally, the Packers have not made big-name acquisitions on the trade market during Brian Gutekunst’s first eight offseasons as general manager, but he has shown a willingness to make deals similar to the one he just executed with Kinnard — where his team swaps a late-round draft selection for a developmental/depth player, or vice versa.

Given how the injury bug has bitten them at other positions, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Packers cut a similar deal to patch another hole in the bottom of their depth chart.

Of course, there is also chatter about the Packers trading for four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons, who requested a trade several weeks ago after reaching an impasse in his contract negotiations with the Dallas Cowboys. A blockbuster deal for Parsons would defy most of Gutekunst’s standard operating practices, but he is also a superstar on a Hall of Fame trajectory who could push them over the hump in 2025.

Never say never. Just don’t hold your breath.
