Aston Villa are in hot pursuit of this highly sought-after player who Unai Emery already knows well.

The Chelsea striker is expected to leave Stamford Bridge in pursuit of a new chapter in his career. The club has opened the door for his departure, it’s now just down to which club can strike a deal with the Blues before the deadline rolls around.

Jackson also has the likes of Bayern Munich and Newcastle United showing interest in him, with the latter still embroiled in the difficult Alexander Isak saga.

Aston Villa make ‘huge efforts’ to sign Nicolas Jackson

Last week, Fabrizio Romano reported that Villa had made ‘huge efforts’ in their attempt to bring Jackson to Villa Park before the deadline. The 24-year-old is no longer part of the plans moving forward under Enzo Maresca and has not been named in as part of the squad for either of Chelsea’s Premier League games so far this season.

“In the last 48 hours, Aston Villa have made huge efforts to sign Jackson with Unai Emery driving their interest. He was Nico’s coach at Villarreal and would love to reunite with Jackson in the Premier League, but no Champions League football could be a factor to consider with Jackson assessing all his options ahead of a final decision,” Romano wrote for GiveMeSport.

Chelsea are said to value Jackson in the region of £60 million but The Telegraph has reported that this asking price must come down if Villa are to consider making an official offer.

Unai Emery hopes relationship with Nicolas Jackson will pay off

Football Insider has since reported that Jackson is ‘expected’ to leave Chelsea before the summer window closes. The site’s correspondent Pete O’Rourke has shed further light onto Villa’s pursuit of the striker.

Emery and Jackson have previously worked together at Villarreal, where the Spaniard handed the centre-forward his La Liga debut. The Villans manager is reportedly hopeful that their existing relationship and previous connection in Spain will bode well for the West Midlands’ club in their attempt to sign him.

“There’ll be a number of clubs looking at Nicolas Jackson in the last days of the transfer window”, Rourke said. “He’s out of favour at Chelsea, well down the pecking order, they have given him the green light to go, and there’s obvious links between Jackson and Unai Emery.

“Emery gave [Jackson] his La Liga debut at Villarreal, the two of them both have a good relationship, and Emery is hoping that will give his team the advantage as they follow up their interest in Jackson. It’s a deal they are working on and an agreement is a high possibility. Villa are in pole position.”

The summer deadline is rapidly approaching and Aston Villa must act fact if they want to beat the competition and leave plenty of time to finalise a deal for Jackson.
