In the past month or long it feels like everyone has weighed in with their thoughts on the Alexander Isak situation and his expressed desire to leave Newcastle United this summer. Isak's position is clear, he wants to leave for Liverpool.

The trouble is, Liverpool need to stump up the necessary money if they are going to sign one of the Premier League and Europe's best strikers. So far they haven't come close to Newcastle's valuation with their solitary offer, and so we find ourselves in this difficult position of what to do with Isak.

Questions continue to be raised as to whether there is a route back for the player into the first team squad, which Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has made clear there is. With Newcastle set to host Liverpool this evening at St James' Park, the talk around Isak will only intensify.

Amid all that talk, former Newcastle player and fan favourite Shaka Hislop may have come up with the best take yet on the situation with an impassioned verdict on what has been going on.

Speaking on ESPN football, Hislop had no problem with Isak choosing to leave if that is his wish, but had a major problem with the statement issued by the player last week that said; "The reality is that promises were made - and the club has known my position for a long time." A statement the club responded to by insisting no promises were made.

Speaking on the whole situation, Hislop said; "You don't go back to your former club to train. You don't miss pre-season. You don't stay away from the football club. And then in mid August claim a moral high ground!

"You've given that up. If that is what you are doing, do it and own it. But you don't get to turn around six wees into it and claim some kind of moral high ground here. I don't understand Alexander Isak's position and that ridiculous statement on social media. I do not understand who is advising him/

"I cannot think of any way he could have got this more wrong. It's an absolute farce."
