The latest Premier League transfer rumours as Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle brace for a busy end to the summer transfer window
We have now entered the final week of the summer transfer window and you can expect things to crank up a notch as clubs push to finalise their remaining pursuits.
As we count down until Deadline Day, transfers are going to be churning out thick and fast. So we thought we’d start the week off with some of the latest Premier League stories on the rumour mill.
Tottenham could see £47.5m bid accepted for winger
Tottenham Hotspur are still on the market for a new attacking player in these late stages. After losing out on Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, they are now struggling to land Savinho from Manchester City.
Spurs have seen two bids rejected by their Premier League rivals but have a third choice target lined up in the form of Maghnes Akliouche from AS Monaco.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham have been told an offer in the region of £47.5 million ‘will be accepted’ for the 23-year-old, who has three years left on his current contract.
“He’s a top young player, 23 years old, probably one of the most exciting young talents in Ligue 1 right now – he can play as a winger, or as a number 10 as well,” Pete O’Rourke told the outlet.
“If Tottenham aren’t able to resurrect their deal for Savinho, Akliouche would be a decent alternative, and it does seem that Monaco would sell at the right price.”
The 3AM Verdict: Akliouche contributed seven goals and 12 assists in all competitions for Monaco last season and is already off this mark this term as well. Capable of scoring and assisting, as well as being a versatile player, he could add a new layer of creativity to Tottenham. Fabrizio Romano reported that Spurs were willing to pay as much as £60 million for Eze, so the cash is there to be spent if they opt to pursue Akliouche further.
Journalist plays down Liverpool Alexander Isak alternatives
The story of the transfer window is undoubtedly the Alexander Isak saga. It still remains to be seen whether the striker will leave Newcastle United or not this year but one thing is for sure, it’s been quite the rollercoaster.
Liverpool remain keen on signing Isak but it is uncertain whether they will make one last attempt to sign him this window.
Liverpool ECHO journalist Ian Doyle has given his thoughts on the situation and says it ‘wouldn’t be a shock’ if £130 million was enough to secure a last gasp signing. However, amid the reports of Liverpool targeting alternatives, Doyle has played them down.
Discussing why the likes of Rodrygo and Julian Alvarez don’t make ‘much sense’ for the Reds, he also urges fans not to be surprised if Liverpool don’t have a plan B in place in lieu of Isak.
The 3AM Verdict: Signing Alexander Isak would break the internet as well as Liverpool’s transfer record but as we enter the final days of the window, it’s looking all the more unlikely a deal will get over the line. Hugo Ekitike is already proving to be a reliable and impressive signing, so the Reds don’t exactly need another top class striker to join the ranks right now. If it takes until 2026 to revisit Isak, it won’t be the end of the world for the champions.
