Martin Dubravka taunts Sunderland with Newcastle United 'smash them' revelation

Dubravka said he "couldn't even describe" the joy at beating the arch rivals of his former club.

The 36-year-old brought his seven-year stay at St James' Park to an end in the summer when he joined Burnley, and played a key role in his new side's victory against Sunderland, denying Eliezer Mayenda early on his way to his first clean sheet for the Clarets.

And the goalkeeper, who made more than 150 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, said the win over the Black Cats meant an awful lot.

"I'm not going to lie, this is a special victory for me for obvious reasons. I can't even describe it," he said.

"I spent almost eight years in Newcastle and played in the derby once.

"I'm glad that we won it. I got so many messages from the Geordies before the match wishing me the best and that we hopefully smashed them."

Dubravka hopes his experience can prove beneficial for Burnley in their fight to stay in the Premier League this season.

He said: "That's why the gaffer and the club brought me here because of my experience.

"I've been here in Premier League for almost eight years, so if I can help the players with my experience, I would love to."

Meanwhile, Trai Hume says Sunderland "won't overthink" their Burnley defeat as they look to get back to winning ways in the Carabao Cup against Huddersfield tomorrow.

"We'll analyse the details of what went well and what went wrong at Burnley but we’ll stick together and go again," said the full-back.

"That's all you can do."

Hume has started Sunderland's first two Premier League games and has noticed one big difference between the top tier and the Championship.

"It's definitely quicker and, obviously, people are a lot better on the ball and move a lot faster," he said.

"It's the details. If you don't score your goal, you'll get punished for it.

"We've missed our couple of chances in the first half [at Burnley] and we struggled to create in the second and they get two chances and score two goals. That's the Premier League for you.

"If you don't score your goals then you get punished. That's the difference.

"We played West Ham, we had three chances and scored three. We were ruthless.

"In the second half [at Burnley] when we had a lot of the ball, we struggled to create because they're in a 5-4-1 and tightened up their box well. Credit to them, they defend well.

"We need to find a way to create more chances, so it's just the little details that we need to work on."

After Huddersfield, Brentford visit the Stadium of Light, and Hume says the home supporters have a starring role to play this season.

He said: "We want it to be hostile, we want it to be hard to come and play against us.

"I have no doubt the fans will be there in their numbers and making noise and it's up to us as players to give them something to cheer."
