Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds United at Hillsborough in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
Sheffield Wednesday welcome Yorkshire rivals Leeds United to Hillsborough on Tuesday as they look to build on a positive result against Wrexham. SWFC will know they’re in for a tough season, but the 2-2 draw with the Red Dragons was another display of the fight within the group.
Henrik Pedersen’s side were 2-0 down at the Racecourse Ground but Barry Bannan pulled one back before academy graduate Bailey Cadamarteri drew them level, sending them back to the Steel City with a point.
The Owls progressed to the second round with a win over Bolton Wanderers earlier this month. A youthful side emerged victorious on penalties after playing out a 3-3 draw over 90 minutes.

As for Leeds United, they make the short trip to Sheffield Wednesday to start their Carabao Cup journey.

The Whites made the prefect start to the new Premier League season with a narrow 1-0 win over Everton at Elland Road, but Saturday’s trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal did not go quite so well. Daniel Farke’s men were thumped 5-0 by the Gunners with Jurrien Timber and Viktor Gyokeres netting two each.
Leeds United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the opening round last year, losing 3-0 to Middlesbrough.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

“It’s safe to say that the Carabao Cup is not the priority for Sheffield Wednesday this season. However, as Yorkshire rivals Leeds United come to Hillsborough, the hosts will surely be up for the fight to try and get one over their local foes.
“Unfortunately, squad depth Is not something SWFC are blessed with, and in comparison to the Owls, Leeds United certainty are. The visitors will likely rotate, but will still have more than enough to get the job done.

“I’ll be hoping that the hosts can put up a real fight and make a game of this, but I think the gap between these two will be clear on Tuesday night. I’m going for a pretty routine away win.”

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 0-3 Leeds United

“Sheffield Wednesday showed great fight to get back into their last game against Wrexham. SWFC don’t have enough depth in their squad though.
“The Owls are desperate for some reinforcements. They could do with making some changes for their upcoming cup clash but don’t have too many options.

“Leeds United should be too strong for Henrik Pedersen’s side. LUFC can freshen things up and give some fringe players and youngsters the chance to show what they can do at Hillsborough. The Premier League new boys should have no problems in South Yorkshire.”
