Liverpool are set to face Newcastle in a Bank Holiday clash tonight, with the main talking point not even expected to be present. Alexander Isak's potential move to Anfield seems increasingly unlikely as the transfer window deadline looms.

Despite his absence, the ongoing saga of this summer's biggest transfer will undoubtedly dominate conversations before and after tonight's match at St James' Park, as the second round of Premier League fixtures comes to an end.

Recent reports suggest that Liverpool are now considering other options, including a Real Madrid star who has been sidelined by Xabi Alonso.

Here are the transfer stories to watch as we enter the final week of the window.

Rodrygo rumours

As the Isak transfer saga continues, Liverpool are reportedly in advanced discussions with Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as a possible alternative, according to Spanish media.

The La Liga heavyweights are reportedly open to selling, but only for a hefty €100 million (around £86.5 million) fee, reports the Mirror.

Bringing in Rodrygo could provide Liverpool with tactical versatility, potentially allowing Cody Gakpo to shift into a central striker role when needed. The asking price is still significantly lower than what Newcastle would accept for Isak.

Marc Guehi development

Manchester City are contemplating a move for Marc Guehi – but only if centre-backs Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake leave this week.

Crystal Palace's Guehi is also on Liverpool's radar, potentially setting up a scenario similar to Eberechi Eze's switch from Palace to Arsenal instead of Tottenham.

Guehi is in the last year of his contract at Selhurst Park and has declined to sign a new one, which means the England international could be snapped up for a bargain £35m before next Monday's deadline.

In other news, Darwin Nunez has hit the ground running in Saudi Arabia, with the ex-Liverpool striker scoring in Al-Hilal's final pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Nunez made the move to Al-Hilal earlier this month in a deal worth approximately £46.3million.
