The NFL is an unforgiving business, and as the Baltimore Ravens finished up their slate of preseason games with a 30-3 win over the Washington Commanders, a rookie was dealt brutal news by the football gods.

Given that so many players are fighting for roster spots, the preseason is a chance to put yourself into the thinking of the coaching staff, with roster cuts looming, and for rookie Xavier Guillory, just as he was starting to get his feet underneath him, it all came to a screeching halt.

Having not had a single reception in the first two games, Guillory managed three receptions for 17 yards, so he was starting to get going, and then he suffered, what we thought at the time was a shoulder injury, and he was taken out of the game.

Well, now we know, thanks to Guillory, who posted on social media, he suffered a broken collarbone in the win.

Yeah, that’s just yuck.

Exactly what the timeline is for Xavier’s return is unknown, but there is a real chance he will sit out for the first few months, just as it looked like he was about to start to build some momentum in his first NFL preseason.

With roster cuts looming, we aren’t sure if Baltimore will cut ties with the undrafted rookie, but the NFL is a brutal business. It is just a reminder of how easily things can go south, with Guillory seemingly just starting to get something positive going, the football gods had other ideas.

Now he’s sidelined for the foreseeable future.
