Wayne Rooney drops early Benjamin Sesko prediction after namechecking ‘dangerous’ Man Utd ace vs Fulham, ‘so maybe…’

Manchester United and England icon Wayne Rooney shared his telling reaction on Benjamin Sesko and one other key first-team player after the 1-1 Premier League draw against Fulham.

Benjamin Sesko signed for Manchester United earlier this month and both of the 22-year-old Slovenia forward’s appearances have come from the bench so far.

Ruben Amorim handed the Red Devils’ summer signing his debut in United’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford, with Sesko replacing Mason Mount off the bench.

Sesko was subbed on in the second half against the Gunners and he was unable to make an impact for United against Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season.

United manager Ruben Amorim again made the big call not to start the Slovenia international for the Premier League visit to Craven Cottage to face Fulham.

Sesko received his chance in the second half of United’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Fulham after he replaced Amad Diallo only eight minutes after the break.

Wayne Rooney speaks out on Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha in Man Utd’s performance vs Fulham

Matheus Cunha was asked to lead the frontline for the start of Manchester United’s Premier League encounter with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon.

The 26-year-old United signing was lively in the first half and Matheus Cunha impressed Red Devils supporters with his role in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system.

Wayne Rooney was asked after the Premier League result at Craven Cottage whether or not Benjamin Sesko should already be starting for the Red Devils.

Speaking on BBC Sport’s The Wayne Rooney Show, the 39-year-old United legend said: “Yeah, you would say so [about Sesko starting].

“I think that’s what will end up happening, and then that’s what I was saying before.

“You know, when he comes on, Cunha’s going out wide and etc. So, where Cunha could in both games has looked more dangerous from when he has played as that central role.”

Rooney suggested that Matheus Cunha prefers to play more centrally when he is on the pitch, with the ex-Wolves ace later shifted out to the left with Sesko’s arrival.

“So then when he [Cunha] goes out wide, it looks like, you know, he doesn’t really want to be there,” he continued.

“If that makes sense?”

Rooney’s prediction for Sesko is that he will become the main frontline option and Amorim is taking the steps that he feels that he needs to do with the striker.

“But Sesko, I think, will become the starting forward. I don’t know how many minutes he’s played in pre-season,” he added.

“So maybe he’s just easing him into the team.”

United are now 16th in the Premier League table in the 2025-26 campaign after losing their opening match to Arsenal before securing a point against Fulham.
