Gianluigi Donnarumma is “waiting to join Manchester City” before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
Football Insider revealed on 12 August Man City were entering the race to sign Donnarumma as he looks set to leave PSG.
Pep Guardiola’s side are working on a deal for the 26-year-old as speculation continues around the future of Ederson, who has been heavily linked with Galatasaray.
The Brazil international was left out of Man City’s squad for the opening-day victory over Wolves, while he returned to the bench for the defeat against Tottenham on Saturday (23 August).
James Trafford started in both of those games after rejoining the club for £27million from Burnley last month, with the deal potentially rising to £31million in add-ons.

The Italy international, who is out of contract in June 2026, has spent the past four years with PSG after joining on a free transfer from AC Milan in 2021.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “Clearly, Donnarumma is kind of waiting in the shadows to go to City.
“You’ve got a situation where Donnarumma is not rumoured to be looking at any other team. It seems to me that the Ederson deal still has a strong possibility of happening.
“I think the fee for Ederson is going to be somewhere in the order of £15million either way. Whether they really are at £8million now or whatever.
“I mean, I think City will not do the deal unless they’re going to get let’s say £15million and let’s say they know that they’ve got Donnarumma lined up for a fee that’s quite similar.
“We talked before about the wages of Donnarumma are huge. So, since you’ve got to factor that into the equation, and the wages of Ederson are obviously very substantial as well because he’s been at the club a very long time with a number of extensions, so he’s on a very big wage.
“I was more confident the deal would happen maybe a week ago. Now it just seems a little bit strange, although I don’t believe that he was ill last weekend.
“So, if I had to bet, I’d still say the deal will happen. I think it’ll probably happen at £15million, and I’d still say Donnarumma will end up at City.
“But with any of these things, I think it’s still quite a moving feast.”

Man City work on expensive deals
In terms of other transfer activity, Football Insider revealed on 17 August Xavi Simons and Rodrygo are on Man City’s radar.
However, both would be expensive deals to pull off, while the focus is currently on trimming the squad at the Etihad Stadium.
It is believed multiple fringe players could leave Man City before the transfer window closes.
