Leeds United next transfer after James Justin as 'agreement reached' and flight booked

Leeds United are expected to sanction the departure of Isaac Schmidt to Werder Bremen when James Justin's £10million move to Elland Road is confirmed.

Justin, 27, is undergoing his medical at Leeds after the club agreed a deal worth £8m plus £2m add-ons for the one-time England international. Daniel Farke has been desperate to add a versatile full-back to his squad and now it's looking like Leicester City defender Justin is the man that is going to arrive.

Having captained the Foxes during their first two Championship matches of the season, Justin was left out of Marti Cifuentes' squad for the trip to Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Personal terms are not anticipated to be an issue for Justin, who has made 168 appearances for Leicester since his £7m move from Luton six years ago. He has a wealth of Premier League experience and scored four times in 39 matches for the Foxes across all competitions last season.

Justin is now set to become Leeds' tenth signing of the summer. The Whites have also signed Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Sean Longstaff, Lucas Perri, Anton Stach, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Ofakor, with the club's summer spending heading for above £100m.

Once Justin's move is signed and sealed, Leeds are expected to allow Schmidt to leave the club. German outlet Deichstube reported on Friday that Werder have reached an agreement with the Whites to sign Schmidt on loan with an option to buy inserted into his contract.

It was added that Werder have already scheduled flights for Schmidt to travel to Germany so that he can undergo medical and put the finishing touches on the move. However, Leeds hadn't given the 25-year-old the green light to travel as they hadn't signed his replacement yet.

But now, with Justin on course to make the move to West Yorkshire, Schmidt's exit is expected to go through after he made it clear his preference is to join the Bundesliga club.

Schmidt, who can be used on the left or right side of the back line, was not included in the 20-man Leeds squad to face Arsenal in their second Premier League outing of the season on Saturday.

The Whites ended up losing 5-0, with Viktor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber scoring twice for Arsenal, while Bukayo Saka also found the net for the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite the scoreline, Farke wasn't too disheartened with his side's performance. He said: "Yes, I think it's fair to say that Arsenal deserved to win this game today. They were the better side. They deserved also to win this game with a good proper goal difference.

"It's always a difficult game for a newly promoted side. I think you could feel this in the first 10 minutes, they were all over us, we were a bit nervous, but we survived this period without giving one chance away."

"Then we got a foot into the game, got more and more confident, had good situations also for counter-attacks. After 35 minutes, we had probably the best chance in the game with Pascal Struijk's header and the fantastic save of David Raya."

"We accept that they were the better team today, they deserved to win this game, and for us it's not a season-defining game. We are disappointed but we won't over-analyse this game too much. Yes, there were one or two things that we could have done better, there's no doubt about this."
