Arsenal get double boost on Saka & Odegaard injuries pre-Liverpool

Bukayo Saka will miss a few weeks of action with a hamstring injury and Martin Odegaard is only a doubt to face Liverpool at Anfield, according to a report.

Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard were both withdrawn early during Saturday’s game against Leeds United, and initial fears were that the pair would face extended layoffs.

Those fears have now been put to rest, though Saka is still going to need a few weeks on the sidelines.

That’s according to Sami Mokbel of the BBC, who claims the 23-year-old is set to be unavailable for three or four weeks with a hamstring problem.

Saka notably missed three months of last season with a hamstring injury, but this new problem is in the other leg, and evidently not nearly as serious.

Three weeks out would mean missing the trip to Liverpool and hosting Nottingham Forest in mid-September, but would make a return for the opening Champions League game a possibility, as well as the subsequent fixture at home to Manchester City (September 21st).

The international break helps Arsenal here, as the Gunners won’t have a game between August 31st and September 13th.

Four weeks out would likely mean missing that City game and returning for the Newcastle United match the following weekend (September 28th), or possibly the midweek League Cup game in between (~September 22nd).

As for Odegaard, the midfielder’s shoulder injury is only serious enough to make him a doubt for this weekend’s game against Liverpool. It seems he’s expected to return after the international break at the latest, which would mean missing just that one game.

Charles Watts reports that Arsenal are relieved about both injuries, with a feeling that they could have been a lot worse.

In the meantime, new signings Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke and youth products Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman will have a chance to step up. Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard both also remain available in forward areas, and Reiss Nelson hasn’t been sold or loaned yet either.
