Man United making progress in talks for new ‘keeper

Manchester United were unable to hold on to their lead as they drew 1-1 with Fulham on Sunday.

After Bruno Fernandes missed a first-half penalty, the Red Devils went ahead courtesy of an own goal after the break at Craven Cottage.

Ruben Amorim’s side looked set for their first win of the Premier League season, but Emile Smith-Rowe’s late strike earned the Cottagers a valuable point and denied United victory.

Amorim opted to stick with Altay Bayindir in goal for the trip to West London, despite the Turkish goalkeeper’s error against Arsenal on the opening weekend.

Now, it appears that United are closing in on the signing of a new ‘keeper.

According to GiveMeSport, the Manchester club are advancing in talks to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Belgian side Royal Antwerp.

It is claimed that United have been in negotiations to sign the ‘keeper for an initial fee of around £14.7 million, potentially rising to £17.3 million.

Antwerp, however, are hoping for a package totalling around £22 million, although the two clubs aren’t too far apart in their valuations and a deal is expected to be agreed prior to the transfer deadline.

Lammens, 23, joined Antwerp from fellow Belgian side Club Brugge back in 2023 and has since played 64 times for the club across all competitions, keeping 12 clean sheets and conceding 86 goals.

The report claims that the Belgian is keen on the idea of a move to Old Trafford, hence his absence from Antwerp’s win over Mechelen on Sunday.

It is also claimed that the impending arrival of Lammens doesn’t mean current United ‘keeper Andre Onana will depart the club.

At present there are no plans for either Onana or Bayindir to leave Old Trafford, the report suggests, however that could change with the transfer windows in both Saudi Arabia and Turkey staying open beyond the end of the window in most of Europe.
