Report: Arsenal targeting Leverkusen defender Hincapie

Arsenal appear to be trying to hijack another Tottenham transfer, with The Athleticreporting that the club is keen to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

The Ecuador international is being lined up as a potential replacement for Jakub Kiwior, who is in talks with Porto over a loan move that includes an obligation to buy. Oleksandr Zinchenko is also expected to depart before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Hincapie has made 166 appearances for Leverkusen since joining from CA Talleres in 2020 for €6.35 million and was a cornerstone of Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten title-winning defence in 2023/24.

According to David Ornstein, the 23-year-old, who is contracted to Leverkusen until 2029, is keen to move to the Emirates, with sporting director Andrea Berta exploring ways to negotiate a fee below his €60 million release clause.

Having already spent more than £275 million this summer (including add-ons), Arsenal must surely be confident of making some sales to help push through another deal.
