Manchester United could have to pay Jadon Sancho up to £10million in loyalty payments for him to leave Old Trafford this summer.
Sancho has rejected a move to Roma despite reports Man United were prepared to sell him for around £20million.
The 25-year-old, who is out of contract in June 2026, returned to Old Trafford this summer after Chelsea decided against signing him permanently following his loan spell at Stamford Bridge last season.
Sancho is believed to be on around £300,000 a week with Ruben Amorim’s side, with interested parties struggling to meet his wage demands.
However, former Old Trafford chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Man United are confident of agreeing a transfer for Sancho before the window closes on 1 September.

Sancho hasn’t been named in the matchday squad for either of the club’s first two opening games of the new Premier League season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I mean, there must be a bit more to that than meets the eye.
“I think he obviously is not prepared to take a huge wage cut for the final season, and he’s also probably not prepared to waive the various loyalty payments that are due right now.
“Okay, so from that perspective, I don’t know what the number is, but let’s say it’s £10million that he’s owed by Manchester United if he moves.
“So, he’s not moving until he’s got certainty that he’s going to be paid that £10million, especially not in a scenario where United are getting a £20million fee.
“So, it may be a situation where Roma said, our total contribution to this deal is £20million, how you deal with it with the player is up to you, but we’re not paying more than £20million.
“And really that offer when you actually get down to it, given that it’s got all of these payments that need to be made to Sancho for United is actually a net £10million deal.
“Presumably, United are not prepared to do that deal, and the player is not prepared to effectively waive £10million, so there’s no deal.”

Ruben Amorim has told Rasmus Hojlund to leave Man United
In terms of other transfer activity, Amorim has told Rasmus Hojlund he can leave Man United, with the striker also left out of the matchday squad for the club’s opening two fixtures.
The Denmark international recently confessed he wanted to fight for his place at Old Trafford, but an exit is currently the most likely outcome.
Hojlund has largely failed to impress for Man United since joining in a £72million deal from Atalanta in 2023, registering 26 goals and six assists in 95 appearances over the past two years.
