'I thought': Andy Thompson shares what he honestly made of Jackson Tchatchoua's Wolves debut

Wolves fans got their first look at Jackson Tchatchoua on Saturday against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The Cameroon international recently completed a move to Molineux from Hellas Verona in Serie A, and will now battle Ki-Jana Hoever for minutes at right wing-back, after the departure of Nelson Semedo.

Vitor Pereira believes Tchatchoua will be well suited to the Premier League due to his physicality.

The 23-year-old is best known for his speed, and fans can expect to see him taking up advanced positions, and hopefully providing a bit more than his predecessor Semedo in terms of attacking threat.

On Saturday, Jackson Tchatchoua started on the bench, but was called into action after Hoever picked up an injury.

And after the game, former Wolves right-back Andy Thompson gave his verdict on Wolves’ newest signing.

Losing Semedo was a blow for Wolves.

The Portuguese was a fairly consistent and dependable performer, and also proved himself as a leader in the second half of last season.

And the club did want to keep him, with Wolves offering Semedo a new four-year contract.

But he decided to move on, and Wolves now have Tchatchoua – and Thompson liked what he saw from the newbie against Bournemouth.

He said on Matchday Live Extra: “I thought when he first came on, he looked like a nervous kid when he was first having a kick. There was tension there and nerves, and that’s understandable. You’re coming to play in the Premier League.

“He seemed to settle down a little bit more. He had some good chances in this second half running down this right wing when he got on to it. But that’s when that decision making comes into it as well.

“Because Larsen was trying to catch up with him and he was the only one in the centre, and it was always going to be a fight for him to get in there!

“He probably could have just paused it a little bit, just to give him a little bit of a chance, a second or so, to get into the middle of that area and then have a look for that pass. He hit the balls in a little bit early.

“But look, it’s another member to the squad, another player coming in, and hopefully he’s going to be a good asset for us.”

Tchatchoua could be a great addition for Wolves

Wolves only signed Tchatchoua just under a week ago, and he needs time to settle.

But there were some good moments against Bournemouth, with data indicating he made a combined four tackles and interceptions, and he looks like he could be a good fit for English football, as Pereira believes.

Tchatchoua – who has already clocked the intensity of the Premier League – has an opportunity to break into the starting XI already, with many still questioning if Hoever is good enough to be a regular starter.

So far the Dutchman hasn’t convinced, and Pereira may be ready to chuck Tchatchoua in against Everton next weekend, or potentially against West Ham United tomorrow night in the Carabao Cup if he is fit enough.
